Besides the regulatory reasons, it is also about making the right strategic decisions to create long-term value for all stakeholders. You cannot make these decisions accurately and reliably by keeping financial performance separate from ESG performance. It requires a more holistic view of the company, stimulating you to think about what drives your business and how it can continue to create value for itself and external stakeholders.

Brigitte de Graaff, CMA
Assistant professor at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam
Brigitte is assistant professor at the VU Amsterdam. She is the director and lecturer of the Certified Management Accountant (CMA) program at the VU. Her PhD research is about the impact of integrated reporting and integrated thinking on performance management systems. Brigitte is strongly involved in the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA) as an IMA Global Board Director, chair of IMA’s Sustainable Business Management Global Task Force, and vice-president of the IMA Amsterdam Chapter.
