Over time, the business model of Fagron evolved, and SAP BPC was no longer able to meet all business requirements. As a result of global growth and increasing reporting complexity, the existing SAP BPC landscape required realignment. To support its evolving finance strategy, Fagron needed a reliable partner to redesign its financial reporting and consolidation processes.

Fagron is a global market leader in pharmaceutical compounding and operates in 32 countries across Europe, the Americas, the Middle East, Africa, Asia and the Pacific. Its products are sold to more than 200,000 customers in over 60 countries. Given this global footprint, robust and scalable financial reporting and consolidation were essential. To support these requirements, cpmview was selected as the consultancy and implementation partner, based on a longstanding relationship that began several years ago after a successful proof of concept and proven expertise in SAP BPC solutions.

Project objectives and functional benefits

The SAP BPC redesign project focused on three objectives:

  • Aligning the SAP BPC data model with the Fagron business model
  • Reducing customisation to improve maintainability
  • Integrating SAP BPC with Navision to streamline data flows

Aligning the data model with the business model

Fagron structured its organisation around several business segments: Fagron Specialty Pharma Services, Fagron Trademarks and Fagron Essentials. To ensure that both financial and management information accurately reflected this structure, the SAP BPC data model was redesigned accordingly.

Based on the new model, Fagron can now easily report financial figures per business segment, as well as generate a consolidated income statement and balance sheet for each segment.

“Due to the simplification of the data model, we work more efficiently and are able to interface with our standard source systems.”

Reducing customisation in SAP BPC

The previous SAP BPC environment consisted of three separate models, each with a different function. Data transfers between these models were timeconsuming and complex. In the redesigned solution, the environment was simplified to a single consolidation model.

This significantly reduced the time required to finalise monthly financial and management reports and, more importantly, ensured one single version of the truth across the organisation.

“With the help of cpmview we now have a solid reporting and consolidation system which is aligned with our strategy.”

Integration with Navision

To further increase efficiency in the financial close process, a flatfile interface was implemented between Navision and SAP BPC. This integration reduced manual data entry, improved data reliability, and accelerated the monthly close cycle.
